The people of Montreal have spoken, and they voted their first Mayoress since Jeanne Mance 375 years ago, Valerie Plante, from Projet Montreal. Pet owners rejoice because there is hope for them and their dogs. Projet Montreal will repeal the Breed Specific Legislation that Coderre administration put in place, allowing Animal Control to enter a home without a warrant, seize the family dog and have it killed solely based on their appearance. This is no joke, sadly, and proves how ignorance can overrule common sense despite hard evidence and facts.
But there is hope! Projet Montreal plans on following the Calgary model.
A wonderful article written by Benjamin Shingler of CBC News says it best:
"Valérie Plante of Projet Montréal has been elected mayor of Montreal, sco...
Some concerned pet owners have been talking to me about how hard it is to get rid of fleas in their homes and on their pets. I found this interesting article that contains useful tips about getting rid of fleas in our yards as well; that will most certainly help eradicate those pesky blood suckers.

After getting rid of all the fleas inside your home and on your pets, you might think you’re safe. Unfortunately this is usually not the case, because you haven’t treated the root of the problem yet. Thinking of travelling with your dog to Montréal, Québec? Think twice! If it looks somewhat like a Pit Bull it will most likely be seized and euthanized with no regards to its temperament just because of its looks. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.
It all began when a poor woman was mauled to death by a neighbor's dog that the police described as a "Pit Bull" although the dog has been registered as a "Boxer". After that, all went down for the dogs. See article here.
On September 26, Montreal city officials elected to represent their citizens, will vote
to give away their citizens' rights. Read carefully the bylaw here.
In other words dogs that look like a Pit Bull, or vaguely like a Pit Bull, will be banned, but present owners will be able to keep them under very strict...
A few weeks ago, the Montreal SPCA learned, along with Montrealers, of the city's plan to institute breed specific legislation (BSL) which would come into effect September 2016. The Montreal SPCA shares citizens' concerns and recognizes the urgency to act to ensure public safety.
They created a website that focuses on prevention and on the owner's responsibility and that targets dogs based on their behavior, not their breed. In addition to accurate information based on facts, they have references and a petition. CLICK ON THE IMAGE TO LEARN MORE AND SIGN THE PETITION. - Please share!
I give a little Garlic to my two 75 lbs dogs for Summer with no problem. Garlic got its bad reputation following a study done in Japan back in 2000. They only used 4 dogs for the study and they concluded that it could give them Heinz body anemia. But... the amount of Garlic administered was very, very high, and besides, the dogs were not sick from it. So, just like the BSL scare, people started panicking about Garlic. I mean, a lot of people. There are so many other studies in favor of Garlic, I have yet to find another one that proves Garlic is not good for dogs. I plan on contacting local vets and asking them if they have ever encountered a dog who got sick from ingesting Garlic.
If you know of another study that shows facts about Garlic being no good for dogs, I would appreciate yo...
